Kevin X. Smith was honored at the 2016 Entrepreneurial Business Excellence Hall of Fame with the Davenport-Longenecker Lifetime Achievement Award. Kevin was chosen by Larry Davenport and Clint Longenecker for his years of leading, developing, volunteering and advocating for businesses, nonprofits, and individuals in our community.
As the CEO and General Counsel for Associated General Contractors of NW Ohio, Kevin oversees labor relations associated with 13 labor unions and over 350 contractors. Kevin also serves as trustee on over $2.5 billion worth of benefit funds, in addition to a large multi-trade health and welfare plan.
A graduate of Xavier and the University of Toledo College of Law, Kevin began his career at AGC NW Ohio in 1978. He took a break from association leadership to work at the Bostelman Company in real estate and business development, then was recruited by the AGC of NW Ohio to once again take the helm beginning in 2010.
Since 1986, Kevin has donated his time and expertise as trustee, chair or president to a number of civic and professional organizations. Such organizations include Catholic Charities, Lucas County Plan Commission, United Way Pension Committee, Toledo Bar Association, TPS Building Program-Community Oversight Committee, Toledo Country Club, Toledo Design Standards Review Committee, Ohio Construction Council, City of Toledo One Stop Permit Center Committee, Toledo Board of Building Appeals, Toledo Botanical Gardens, Toledo Electric Franchise Review Committee.

Kevin coached CYO and YMCA football, basketball and baseball for 15 years, in addition to watching his children compete in swimming, lacrosse, wrestling, and nationwide, in karate. The Smith children attended OLPH, St. Ursula and St. Johns, before heading to DePaul, OU, Loyola and Xavier. All four returned home to watch, along with Kevin’s wife Mary Pat , the dedication of the award.
